What is “Photography”?

Photography is the art, science, and practice of creating visual images using light and a photosensitive medium such as film or a digital sensor. It involves capturing and recording images of subjects using a camera, which can be anything from a smartphone to a professional-grade DSLR.

The process of photography involves controlling various aspects such as exposure, focus, aperture (depth of field), shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity to produce a desired image. The photographer may also manipulate the image during post-processing using software tools like GIMP, Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.

Photography can be used for a variety of purposes, such as artistic expression, documentation, scientific research, commercial advertising, and journalism. It has revolutionized the way we see and understand the world, capturing moments in time and allowing us to visually explore the complexities of life, nature, and human emotion.
